When Versed appeared on the shelves of our local area Target (where I buy our cat litter and from where I leave with random self-care products, a kitchen utensil, and a book, every single time), I was ecstatic to see the store’s stepped up beauty section. In addition to its minimalistic aesthetic and no-nonsense, results focused ingredient decks, the innovative Versed line is also known for its approachable price tags.
Most recently, Versed focused on customer feedback and launched two of their most-requested liquid formulas: Baby Cheeks All In One Hydrating Milk and Weekend Glow Daily Brightening Solution. Read: a makeup removing, skin softening toner and an exfoliating acid toner. The duo arrived in the most adorable mailer that included a set of reusable cotton rounds in a chic plexi holder. After a couple of weeks of playing with these two new releases, I am happy to share my experience.
Baby Cheeks
This milky liquid can work in two ways: as your pre-cleanse step or as a hydrating post-cleanse toner. What I’m about to say may sound confusing but hear me out. Baby Cheeks can be used to remove your makeup before you grab a face wash or it can deliver a cushy veil of hydration after you wash your face, two seemingly opposite functions. This creative solution excels at both. Don’t limit yourself to the either/or…you can absolutely apply it twice during the same routine.
What’s in it? The juicy blend of Coconut Water, Algae and Bamboo Extracts is infused with Glycerin for an extra dose of hydration. In addition to its cleansing properties, it will balance the skin’s pH level after you wash or exfoliate your face. Worth a callout is Algae Extract, which is mineral-rich antioxidant with skin soothing benefits. Be sure to shake the bottle prior to pressing the dispenser as Baby Cheeks has a bi-phase consistency. I’m guessing it’s the Bamboo Extract. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
Weekend Glow
There is nothing I don’t like about the Weekend Glow acid toner. This includes the practical packaging and the bottle’s happy yellow color. What’s inside, however, is what my skin can’t get enough of. Formulated to help brighten the skin and even out the tone, it is perfect for anyone trying to get rid of pesky post-breakout discoloration. If you’ve been considering an acid toner but fear redness, stinging or irritation (or an aggressive scent that is not uncommon among liquid exfoliants), the latest from Versed won’t disappoint.
What’s in it? This toner is packed with Alpha Hydroxies (Lactic, Glycolic, Kojic, and Azelaic Acids) to gently exfoliate and reveal a brighter looking complexion. To kick up the brightening effect, the formula also features Vitamin C and a handful of antioxidants such as Bearberry, White Mulberry, and Green Tea Extracts. Lastly, the ingredient list features my all time favorite Niacinamide, which can help lighten hyperpigmentation and reduce the appearance of enlarged pores. This whole deck is a win for me.
Versed suggests you incorporate it into either your AM or PM lineup but leaves it to you to decide the frequency. As one who’s had great success with acid toners, I opt for every other day or so when using stronger formulas such as Biologique Recherche P50 1970 or tarte’s knockout. Weekend Glow is much more mild and my combination skin does great with it once a day (at night actually) Monday through Friday. This latest launch definitely lives up to its catchy name because the glow arrives for the weekend.
Don’t forget to use broad spectrum SPF daily as acid toning can make the skin more susceptible to sunburn. *steps off soapbox*
$17.99 each available at versedskin.com and target.com, you can also get these free shipping at revolve.com and dermstore.com
P.S.
If you’re looking to switch to reusable cotton rounds Versed offers bundles (toner + reusable pads) for $30.99 on their website but sadly both are currently out of stock. There are a plethora of options on amazon.com. I haven’t been able to locate the chic plexi holder that arrived in the PR mailer but these come with a cute bamboo storage box.
