As a self-proclaimed beauty enthusiast, I am not very adventurous when it comes to fragrance. You could say I’m a creature of habit. When I find a favorite, I usually stick with it for at least a decade. Diptyque Eau de Sens is one of those scents. The iconic brand behind everyone’s favorite candle also serves as a room spray in our house—have you tried the La Droguerie collection? Most recently, they’ve even created the fanciest bug spray. Trust me, if your sanity is compromised by the evil and ubiquitous mosquitoes every summer, you need to try the Citronnelle & Geranium body spray. It’s absolutely brilliant.
What is the Diptyque body spray like?
Diptyque, a house renowned for its sophisticated and artful olfactory creations, has completely intrigued me with its Citronnelle & Geranium launch. This blend is not just a scent; it’s an evocative journey through a lush, sun-dappled garden on a warm summer day—a day that is not interrupted by the buzz of mosquitoes and the itch of inflamed bite marks.
If you enjoy a burst of freshness, the zestiness of the first spritz is quite reminiscent of the conventional citronella candle one burns on the patio to repel pesky insects. After all, the essential oil fusion includes lemongrass, eucalyptus, and lavender. As with any fragrance, the opening notes shift and finally settle into a much lighter, fun yet sophisticated drydown.
What notes are in Citronnelle & Geranium?
As the initial sharpness of crushed lemongrass ascends, the heart of the fragrance unfolds with the delicate yet distinctive aroma of geranium. This is where the magic of Diptyque’s craftsmanship truly shines. Geranium brings a unique floral touch that is both green and slightly rosy, balancing out the lingering citrus beautifully. And speaking of citrus, this is where the fragrance reveals its depth and complexity. Subtle floral undertones emerge, hinting at orange blossom and neroli. The cleanliness is almost effervescent and reminiscent of Eau de Sens.
How wearable is it?
In a word: extremely. Despite the strong opening, Citronnelle & Geranium remains fresh on the skin for hours. The longevity isn’t incredible but long enough to serve its purpose. I spray it all over my legs, arms, and neck before a morning walk around the lake and find it to be on the lighter side. If I spray it on my arms and ankles before going out in the evening, I find the silage to be present but not overpowering. It lingers subtly. I still cannot believe this creative twist that satisfies the fine fragrance craving while keeping me mosquito bite-free. Best random purchase that I cannot recommend highly enough.
