What is this Jones Road formula about?
The latest Jones Road skincare launch is a water-based daily serum that is perfect for anyone who struggles with dullness, uneven tone, and hyperpigmentation. Think of it as your Vitamin C serum with multi-oxidant perks. Also, I just made up a word. It’s the post-cleanse and pre-moisturizer step that any skin type, at any ate can easily incorporate into their existing routine. JRB may be dubbed the cool clean makeup brand, but when skin is your canvas, proper care is crucial.
What is in the new Jones Road serum?
The INCI on this new launch is straightforward, concise, and no-nonsense. In other words: very much on brand. Here are the highlights:
- Glycerin – helps the skin retain moisture,
- Apple Fruit Extract – packed with polyphenols, Vitamins C and E which fight free radical damage,
- Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate – stable and water-soluble Vitamin C derivative which lightens hyperpigmentation,
- Sodium Hyaluronate – plumps up dehydrated skin instantly,
- Panthenol – aka Vitamin B5, which has healing and anti-inflammatory properties,
- Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit Extract – hailing from Australia and commonly known as Kakadu Plum, it is considered the gold standard source of skin brightening Vitamin C,
- Santalum Acuminatum Fruit Extract – rich in Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid, and a great source of Phenolic Acids that acts like a gentler alternative to skin resurfacing AHAs (another native to Australia fruit known as Desert Peach),
- Acacia Victoriae Fruit Extract – one more botanical from Down Under with the impressive ability to brighten dull tone, rich in minerals such as Zinc, Magnesium, and Potassium.
Usage, application, etc.
The PR mailer I received pre-launch suggested overnight use. Personally, I tend to reach for a Vitamin C serum during the day as they tend to boost UV protection under sunscreen. Though the formula offers a gentle alternative to Alpha Hydroxies, the subtlety of the resurfacing properties should not make the skin more susceptible to sunburn if used in the AM. Be sure your skin is properly cleansed and apply a moisturizer on top. Always extend the application to the neck but avoid the eye area.
The rollerball applicator is unique to this serum; I’ve only ever encountered this packaging component in an eye care product. And I’m here for it. Not only is the stainless steel tip hygienic, but it also dispenses the perfect amount of product directly on the skin. Its super lightweight texture glides on the skin with the slightest of slips and absorbs in seconds.
In other good news, I’ve tested a variety of moisturizers and all have layered comfortably without pilling. This includes sunscreen. I did not detect any scent even though Bitter Orange Extract is included toward the end of the ingredient deck. Full disclosure: what I’ve shared in this post is very much my first impression, only one week in. Thus far, I can say I’m enjoying this JRB skincare addition. A lot.
