Since using oil to make your hair look shiny and full but never greasy is actually an art, the gods at Shu Art of Hair offer some of the most elegant formulas to deliver just that. Known for their iconic face cleansing oil, Shu Uemura mastered the concept of playing with oil decades ago. Most recently, the brand partnered up with the trendsetters behind the mens and womenswear line Maison Kitsuné for a fun and modern ‘beauty remix collection’. Hashtag gorge. At the end of this post, you’ll know how to score my two faves: cleansing oil shampoo gentle radiance cleanser and essence absolue nourishing protective oil for yourself and your BFF in the limited edition packaging. I know, I’m the best.

Extremely popular, plant oils are the hottest ingredients in the beauty industry. Purifying and highly nourishing, these botanical extracts cleanse without stripping, provide antioxidant protection and revitalize. In other words, there is absolutely no need to fear oils. Unless it’s like peanut oil. That just doesn’t sound right.

The Shu Art of Hair cleansing oil shampoo is inspired by the Onsen ferment, a deep sea sourced volcanic infusion known in Japan for its clarifying and hydrating properties. Not a straight up oil per se, this shampoo is a luxurious blend of cleansing ingredients that burst with energizing notes of Yuzu, Mandarin, and Sage. Clear-ish and surprisingly non-oily, it lathers beautifully and rinses off clean. Genius on my thick, coarse and heat abused hair, it leaves it soft, manageable, and pretty impeccable. Legit holy grail status.

SHU ART OF HAIR Essence absolue nourishing protective oil

The essence absolue nourishing protective oil is a multi-tasking solution for anyone struggling with unruly, brittle hair prone to annoying flyaways. Powered by Camellia Oil (also known as Tsubaki), this antioxidant rich compound protects the hair against UV damage and locks in moisture to avoid excessive dryness. Seriously flexible, it can be applied to dry hair prior to or after shampooing on damp, towel dried hair. Amazing before a blowout or any heated styling tools, it adds sheen without weight. This serum oil hybrid has a slightly slippery texture and a light white floral aroma. Now you know how Camellia smells!

Named in honor of a fox, a Japanese symbol for versatility, Maison Kitsuné lends its contemporary and chic aesthetic to the latest Shu Uemura packaging. Featuring whimsical motifs, the collaboration incorporates juxtaposing iconic elements from Eastern and Western cultures (kimono & dress, cafe & green tea among others). The crossover approach of timeless classics with current trends results in these beauty staples being more adaptable than ever before. Explore the collection at shuuemuraartofhair-usa.com.
