Paula’s Choice may be best known for its no-nonsense approach to skin care with straightforward formulas that are free of hype, fragrance, and anything ‘filler.’ On my radar for over fifteen years, the line introduced me to Niacinamide and delivered prescription strength results with an array of over the counter Retinol options. During the last few months, a handful of newly launched PC products have landed in my hands, three of which are pretty outstanding.
Perfect Cleansing Oil
Completely unscented, this cleansing oil is not really here to serve up aromatherapy realness. With only a couple of pumps, however, it instantly removes sunscreen and every trace of my concealer, bronzer, or tinted moisturizer. This blend of five plant oils (Sunflower, Coconut, Meadowfoam, Jojoba, and Grape) is combined with Shea Butter as well as cleansing and emulsifying agents to melt away pigment, dirt, and excess oil in a single step.
A fan of simplicity, I apply it to dry skin, massage for a minute or two, and remove it with a warm washcloth. The Paula’s Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil emulsifies after adding the water. When I skip a cloth, I follow up with a foaming formula for a double-cleanse effect. Suitable for all skin types, the silky texture is more lightweight than many cleansing oils available today. It does sting my eyes a bit though… so there’s that. $25 (4 oz.)
RESIST Advanced Pore-Refining Treatment 4% BHA
We folks with enlarged and easily congested pores live for Paula’s Choice BHA exfoliants. They’re seriously magical. Having graduated from the classic 2% BHA Liquid to the RESIST version, and as a long time user of the weekly 4% BHA treatment, the latest powerhouse is my new skincare BFF.
More of a nighttime serum, this time released formula is fueled by a concentrated form of Salicylic Acid infused with antioxidants and delivers a brighter, firmer, even-toned complexion. Potent but not aggressive, this impressive newcomer penetrates deep within the pores, speeds up cell turnover from the skin’s surface and results in a smoother appearance. The gel texture absorbs in seconds and layers well under oil or moisturizer. Love the pump dispenser and slim, travel friendly bottle. Ideal for those with combination to oily skin. $36 (1 oz.)
RESIST Skin Restoring Moisturizer SPF 50
Honestly, I was very skeptical as this latest sunscreen is labeled Normal/Dry. Dehydrated? That I am, but dry? Not really. Surprisingly lightweight and ultra well absorbent, this creamy moisturizer is actually sunblock on steroids. The impressive ingredient deck features Apple Fruit, Coffee, and Licorice Root Extracts as well as Niacinamide, Allantoin, and Vitamin E. This skin restoring, soothing and hydrating formula also provided flawless broad spectrum sun protection of SPF 50. Other highlights include the absence of white cast or that dreaded shiny finish. While the ‘traditional’ sunscreen scent is present, it does not linger. $33 (2 oz.)
