Current Avène Favorites

We may be experiencing a heatwave this week but I feel confident that, come Monday, we’ll be seeing sweater weather. And while I’m all about hoodies, scarves, and red wine by the fireplace, this time of year is not the kindest to our skin. The constantly changing yo-yo effect resulting from indoor/outdoor temperature changes can trigger redness, dehydration, and oftentimes, unwanted flaking and dry, itchy skin. Combine this with the changes in diet around the holidays and the vast increase in social outings and you’ll wake up with fatigued, dull-looking skin most mornings.

Hyaluron Activ B3 Serum

This super hydrating serum has been described as a new launch, but the truth is, Ulta has listed it as an exclusive for the past six months. Formulated with just eight ingredients, this silky treatment is packed with Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Glycerin, and Adenosine. This means that each dropper full delivers a dose of replenishing hydration, which prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL). It also soothes and repairs compromised skin. Its lightweight texture ensures that it fits easily into your AM or PM routine and layers well with other products. $40 (30ml) and $30 during the sale

Avène Thermal Water Spray

Paying for water may sound counterintuitive but hear me out. The Avène Thermal Spring Water is sourced in the south of France and boasts impressive anti-inflammatory properties. It is rich in skin soothing minerals, making it a great choice for those struggling with conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. There is a reason this iconic spray bottle comes in a variety of sizes. Keep the mini in your travel bag, the regular side sinkside (try spritzing your face in between skincare steps to amplify hydration), and a large one in the fridge for whenever your skin needs a cooling burst of energy. $10 (50ml), $14 (150ml), and $19 (300ml) but $7.50, $10.50, and $14.25 during the sale

RetrinAL CERAMIDE Lipid-Replenishing Balm

Formulated for dry and mature skin types, this moisturizer is superb on my combination skin during cooler months. The RetrinAL balm has a rich, creamy texture and is powered by skin firming Bakuchiol (excellent for anyone who is too sensitive for conventional retinoids), fortifying Niacinamide, and lipid-replenishing Ceramide Complex. If you have skin sensitivities that are triggered by the frosty outdoor or intense indoor heat, you will appreciate the nourishing properties of this Avène balm. It’s my extra step in a daytime routine during winter months. $76 (1.3 oz) and $57 during the sale

Cleanance Acne Medicated Clearing Gel Cleanser

As a rule, I tend to avoid face washes formulated specifically for acne. Especially during the cooler months when my skin can feel more reactive to stronger, targeted treatments. Since the recent overhaul of the Cleanance line, I am happy to report that this gel cleanser is excellent on congestion-prone skin and is completely non-drying. Since frustrating blackheads are a constant battle for me, I incorporate Salicylic Acid formulas regularly during my morning routine. This fragrance-free gel cleanser penetrates deep within the pore to prevent clogging, which helps control excess sebum. All without disrupting or irritating my skin barrier. $21 (200ml) and $15.75 during the sale

RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream

If you think laying off retinol is the way to go during Fall and Winter, I’m here to prove you wrong. With hours of daylight significantly decreased, the risk of photosensitivity plummets. This alone sets up a more user-friendly environment. The RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream is a firming night treatment formulated with Retinaldehyde, a potent Vitamin A derivative that converts into Retinoic Acid in a single step. Because of its moisturizing base, it successfully protects against potential irritation or peeling. It also contains Vitamin E, a superb antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Use it exclusively at night and always wear broad-spectrum SPF during the day. $79 (30ml) and $59.25 during the sale

Cicalfate Hand Cream

It has been three years since I tried the Cicalfate Restorative Hand Cream and I have not been without a tube of this gem since. I simply have not seen anything like it before. A single application lasts through multiple hand washings and never feels heavy or greasy. When you first apply it, you will notice some stickiness. As you massage it in, the cream will absorb and leave your hands ultra soft and moisturized. Not at all greasy. I’m talking about science experiment level results. $27 (100ml) and $20.25 during the sale

Cicalfate+ Restorative Protection Cream

The beauty of Avène’s Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream lies in its simplicity. This one-and-done moisturizer works in a very specific way and covers a wide range of complexion conundrums. Think of it as the S.O.S. treatment for compromised skin. Your skin may be recovering from sun or wind burn, a stovetop burn, or any post-procedure healing or dryness triggered by environmental factors resulting from travel or extreme cold. And of course, my favorite use – after whatever new retinoid I am currently trying, to prevent any potential flaking. There is a much more in-depth post about this moisturizer HERE. Check it out. $12 (15ml), $28 (40ml), $42 (100ml) or $9, $21, and $31.50 during the sale
