Pure, gentle, and always effective, the iconic French pharmacy favorite Avène is probably best known for Eau Thermale, its cult classic. The must-have-mist, however, represents only a sliver of their wide range of solutions for every skin related conundrum. Offering some of the best sunscreens around, the recent launch of Complexion Correcting Shield SPF 50+ is worth exploring. Those who seek out the coverage of makeup and strive for added skincare benefits, take note.
What is it?
A seamless hybrid of mineral broad spectrum sunscreen (Titanium Dioxide + Zinc Oxide) and medium to full coverage tinted moisturizer, this oil and fragrance free formula is also sensitive skin friendly. Combining state of the art ingredients to soothe, hydrate, and protect, this multi-tasker doubles as a tone corrective cream to conceal redness, blur fine lines and camouflage hyperpigmentation. Think of it as a double duty solution that addresses existing sun related damage and preventing recurrences.
Choose your shade.
Available in three shades, the new Avène Complexion Correcting Shield SPF 50+ comes in adjustable, yet highly pigmented options: Light, Medium, and Dark. Personally, while I tend to gravitate to tinted moisturizers with sunscreen, sheer coverage is the only way I can get away with any added hue of color. Real talk: I am either not good at blending or simply not skilled enough to make medium to full coverage work on my face.
The color payoff is substantial and the rich texture definitely puts the Complexion Correcting Shield in the treatment makeup category. Breathable and featuring impressive anti-aging perks but makeup nevertheless. You may even forego your foundation for the summer and use this in its place. Infused with the legendary Avène Thermal Spring Water, Ceramides as well as Vitamins C and E, this soothing, calming and hydrating daytime moisturizer is definitely a few notches above the ubiquitous BB cream concept.
Yay or Nay?
While I am absolutely gutted, I am unable to master an application of the new Complexion Correcting Shield SPF 50+, I urge you to try it out. If you have yellow undertones, you’re in luck. My skin has so much pink that neither Light nor Medium (I even tried blending the two) worked. The Avène Haute Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50 in Beige, however, is a weightless option, which I find phenomenal.
