Sarah Creal Beauty may be a recent launch, but the woman behind the name has been a powerhouse in the beauty industry for decades. Not only did Sara Creal (the person) help Victoria Beckham launch her beauty line, but she’s also been instrumental in branding some of the most iconic names under the Estée Lauder umbrella. With creative contributions to Tom Ford Beauty, Bobbi Brown, and AERIN, she’s also the visionary who brought the original Prada Beauty collection to life over twenty years ago—one of my personal all-time favorites that I still miss.

Now, in 2024, Sarah Creal Beauty (the brand) emerges, bringing together the founder’s extensive expertise and a deep understanding of what skin over forty truly needs. And let’s be honest, the brand’s aesthetic is just so visually pleasing. If you’re a beauty enthusiast, think of it as a high-end, capsule-style collection à la Jones Road, but with an extra touch of luxury. Every product is laser-focused on helping you embrace proactive well-aging.

What is the Sarah Creal Beauty Line About?

The brand keeps things tight with a streamlined lineup of just 10 items, including a brush and signature travel pouch. That means 8 core complexion products designed to deliver high-performance results. These formulas are innovative, effective, and designed to prioritize both user experience and real results—no-nonsense, just great-looking skin.

My In-Store Experience with the Brand

Not every Sephora carries Sarah Creal Beauty yet, and only a few Manhattan locations have it in stock. I stopped by the 86th St and Lexington store specifically to test the concealer—I loved the sound of it. Unfortunately, I found the shade range leaned a little too warm for me, and the pigment was quite strong. The sales associate couldn’t stop raving about the bi-phase essence, but with a dozen essence-type products already in my stash, I resisted. However, the packaging of the Brilliant Repair Shield Tinted SPF 50 was calling my name in every language, so naturally, I took it home.

Skincare Priorities And Impulse Buys

When it comes to skincare, it’s important to check in with yourself: is this product a “must-have,” a “nice-to-have,” or simply fulfilling a curiosity itch? For me, the Brilliant Repair Shield was a treat-yourself moment. What drove me? My love for trying new tinted SPF formulas, the brand’s luxe aesthetic, and the rave (albeit incentivized) reviews online.

What is Brilliant Repair Shield Tinted SPF?

In short, it’s a pocket-sized, luxe tinted SPF with a lightweight, serum-like consistency. It provides broad-spectrum UV protection with 12% Zinc Oxide and offers light-to-medium coverage. If you’re a stickler for all-mineral sunscreens, keep in mind that this also includes Tridecyl Salicylate, which is referred to as an ‘SPF booster’ but low-key acts as a chemical filter (without being called as such because the FDA is in no rush to approve countless cosmetic ingredients as sunscreen actives).

The finish is radiant but not dewy—think subtle glow, not shimmer. The product currently comes in a single shade called Vacation, and while it works beautifully on my light-to-medium complexion, those with very fair or deep skin tones may want to try it in-store to see how it wears.

In addition to being an excellent makeup item, Brilliant Repair Shield doubles as up a skin treat. The formula includes brightening Niacinamide, skin firming Bakuchiol, anti-inflammatory Bisabolol, and healing Alantoin. It definitely feels elegant gliding on the skin.

User Experience: Helpful Tips

Here are two things you need to know:

1. Shake the bottle before each use, as tinted mineral sunscreens tend to separate.

2. Moisturize beforehand to avoid the pigment clinging to any dry patches.

I’ve coined the term “finishing sunscreens” for tinted SPF products like this one—here’s why. If I were to apply the recommended amount for proper sun protection (three fingers’ worth), I’d look ridiculous. No pigmented SPF looks natural when applied in that quantity, especially if you have stubble or facial hair.

For me, Le Prunier Plumscreen and Kiehl’s Auto-Tone are my everyday go-tos, and the Brilliant Repair Shield layers perfectly over them, adding a much-appreciated tint and glow. What makes it a sure winner is the universally neutral tone—it doesn’t turn yellow on me, and it doesn’t oxidize throughout the day, so no awkward orange glow by lunchtime. Yes, it’s a splurge, but I fully support your dilemma on whether to treat yourself or not!
