When I read about Tom Ford’s Mandarino di Amalfi in British Vogue, I imagined the invite beauty editors received to experience this addition to the Private Blend collection. A luncheon including drinks and bites highlighting key ingredients in this citrusy burst of fragrance? Since my invite was clearly lost in the mail, I picked up a 50ml at the uptown store and took it on our recent trip to… drumroll please… the Amalfi Coast. #TakeThat
Mandarino di Amalfi is an herbal and soapy citrus that was released side by side with Costa Azzurra (woodsy citrus) just last month to join Neroli Portofino (aquatic citrus) from a few years ago. The stunning blue bottles reflecting hues of Mediterranean skies and waters are now a trio of mouth watering variations. All labeled as unisex scents, this segment of Tom Ford’s Private Blend Collection is definitely my favorite. Especially during the summer months. #KeepingItLight
Before I dive into the aquas of Tom Ford’s latest, I have to say a few words about Amalfi, which is the destination for tastemakers like Olivia Palermo and Andy Cohen, to name a few. There are magical, glorious views that never get old. The cliff sides are studded with gorgeous villas and the waters are dotted with boats small and large. #TheView
During the day, the sun can be brutal and the scent of generic sun block with a touch of occasional seaweed is not the most appealing. Every morning and evening, however, the sea breeze, ubiquitously growing citrus trees and herb gardens evoke an intensely pleasant sensory medley. #OutOfThinAir
On me, Mandarino di Amalfi opens with mint, lemon and basil. It moves to middle notes of orange blossom, which are more green than floral and the clary sage that adds a touch of soapiness. The black pepper note is very subtle. Finally, the dry down of vetiver root is crisp more than it is earthy, which makes this engaging Tom Ford creation sharp but comfortable. It’s the perfect daytime blend of clean and zesty. #TakingNotes
Tom Ford can do no wrong. The eyewear ad with Gigi Hadid and the legit Schwarzenegger son is as flawless as my skin, which I attribute to Tom Ford Skincare for Men (keep an eye out for future posts). My only wish is that I had purchased a 250ml bottle of Mandarino di Amalfi since the scent has the longevity of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries ‘mini moon’ after their ‘mini marriage.’ #SummertimeSadness
