La Mer Hydrating Infused Emulsion Is Ideal For Combination Skin

Skincare routine for advanced luxury enthusiast.

I took a look at my overflowing vanity this morning and decided to pare it down. While I may be known for having an abundance of products to trial and test, I only use 3-4 items in my skincare routine. And what is the one thing I’ve been reaching for almost daily as of late? The La Mer Hydrating Infused Emulsion. This product is staying front and center on my sink, right next to my favorite summer cleanser and acid toner. Here’s why I am a loyalist of this unsung hero from La Mer.

La Mer skincare--is it worth the money?

What is the La Mer Hydrating Infused Emulsion All About?

Part of the moisturizer category, the La Mer Hydrating Infused Emulsion is the most lightweight formula the brand offers. When I first discovered La Mer, the Oil Absorbing Lotion absolutely changed my skin. It was the only thing (priced way out of my budget back in 2000) that kept my complexion shine-free during the summer months. Years later, I became a huge fan of the Cool Gel Cream. Sadly, both have now been discontinued. For me, the Emulsion is the next best thing in the current lineup.

Perfect for Combination Skin

What makes this silky formula perfect for my combination skin is its breathable texture that layers well with my sunscreen. It also absorbs almost instantly—an ultimate perk in my hunt for the perfect moisturizer. The emulsion consistency is elegant and delivers an ideal balance of moisture and hydration while keeping my complexion soft, comfortable, and glowing.

What’s in this La Mer Moisturizer?

The Hydrating Infused Emulsion uses a squalane and glycerin base with meadowfoam seed oil, which happens to be closest to our skin’s natural oils and helps with product absorption. We cannot ignore the brand’s legendary Miracle Broth™, a fusion of fermented giant sea kelp, vitamins, and minerals that help amplify the skin’s restorative process. First and foremost, it’s the ultimate healing and soothing blend.

In addition to its moisturizing benefits, the Hydrating Infused Emulsion highlights skin-brightening and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as lime peel and alfalfa seed powder extracts. Other notable ingredients include sodium hyaluronate, algae, acetyl hexapeptide-8, and probiotics. This well-rounded formula delivers smoother and visibly more radiant skin over time while immediately calming and restoring a disrupted skin barrier.

How to Use the Hydrating Infused Emulsion

Almost weightless, the elegant texture of this emulsion makes it the easiest addition to any existing skincare routine. During warmer months, this serves as my moisturizer step—especially during the day. My favorite sunscreen never pills when applied on top. At night, if my skin needs an extra dose of moisture (usually after a stronger retinoid application), I mix 2-3 pumps of this La Mer gem with a pump of face oil (current favorite is by UBeauty). I also never have trouble extending my application of the emulsion to the undereye area.

Emulsion vs. Other La Mer Moisturizers

Besides being the most lightweight of the moisturizer range, the La Mer Hydrating Infused Emulsion is also the most affordable gateway into the category. Yes, you may use a little more product as it’s borderline liquid, but you are still reaping the benefits of the Miracle Broth™. Those who steer clear of the original ‘crème’ will also be happy to know that the emulsion is free of mineral oil. Lastly, the added scent is very faint and one that I find clean and pleasant.

You can currently score it for $210 (during a 25% off private sale) at violetgrey.com. It is also available for $280 (125ml) or $125 (50ml) at nordstrom.com.
