Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer

Dr. Dennis Gross, the man who took the fear (and redness, and burning, and downtime) out of at-home peels, low-key launched of a new masterpiece recently, the Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer. If you’re familiar with the cult classic peel pads, the new hybrid multi-tasker combines the doctor’s trademark resurfacing skills with mandatory daily hydration. In short, it’s a glow inducing moisturizer. And it works.

First glass jar for Dr. G? I think so…

What’s in it?

Part of the Alpha Beta empire, the newness is fueled by the signature blend of 7 acids: Lactic, Glycolic, Malic, Mandelic, Salicylic, Citric, and Tartaric. Gentle enough for daily use, yet powerful to deliver radiant and smooth results with visibly refined pores, the Exfoliating Moisturizer is suitable for all skin types. Infused with line plumping Sodium Hyaluronate, nourishing plant extracts and firming ceramides, the impressive formula is extremely lightweight.

super lightweight

Almost lotion-like in texture, the water based Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer absorbs immediately, making it a seamless addition to your AM or PM skincare routine. Featuring a faint cucumber aroma, it feels cooling and refreshing, and layers well over serums and under sunscreen. If you’re already using Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads, this latest release plays well with other Alpha Beta solutions. First timers, however, please proceed with caution and introduce only one exfoliant at the time.

standard line-up: hydrate, treat, nourish

How do I use it?

Since you absolutely can use the new moisturizer back to back with the iconic peel pads, I sandwich it between the Universal formula and a broad spectrum sunscreen a few mornings each week. At bedtime, my favorite line up includes a hydrating serum, Alpha Beta Moisturizer, and a facial oil. For those intrigued yet concerned about the concept of an exfoliating moisturizer, rest assured, there is no stinging, tingling, nor discomfort.

bart’s faves: acids & retinoids

What to expect?

Since the patented Alpha Beta fusion accelerates surface cell renewal and provides deeper exfoliation within the pore, you will notice a brighter and more even toned complexion within days. A month in, my combination skin appears less congested and has significantly smoother texture. Keep in mind that I have zero sensitivities to acids and retinoids in general. If you’re skin is drier on the spectrum, i recommend a patch test first and starting off slowly.

wear sunscreen

Lastly, and I hate to preach: wear sunscreen every day, especially if hydroxies are part of your daily routine. Any exfoliating formula lends a hand to cellular turnover, which makes the skin more prone to UV damage. If you skip SPF, you are chasing the glow but causing the skin stubborn hyperpigmentation.

If you’re an Alpha Beta junkie (like myself), check out the brand new cleanser launching tomorrow. It’s LEGIT.
