Go Green – Astara Green Papaya Nutrient Mask

Beauty industry pressure results in some favorite formulas falling victim to unrecognizable transformations. Astara Skincare, however, has refused to have any work done and still offers what were my very first splurges in the late 90’s, including the Green Papaya Nutrient Mask. With the weather becoming drab, I’ve perked myself up by dipping into my stash for this throwback favorite.

Enjoying the same formula for fifteen years in any skincare product is both rare and impressive. If you are a fan of face masks, Astara offers tried and true solutions that successfully address a wide range of concerns for all skin types. Originally introduced in 1998, the Green Papaya Nutrient Mask has been the beauty editors’ favorite and a red carpet secret ever since. While my thick skin usually benefits from hardcore exfoliation via Astara’s Blue or Violet Flame formulations, the Green Papaya Nutrient Mask is a perfect pick for colder months when our skin tends to be at its most sensitive.

Showcasing Papain, a powerful papaya fruit enzyme, this spa treatment exfoliates the skin gently and effectively. Bentonite Clay, another key ingredient, makes for a great antibacterial cleansing agent that detoxifies the skin. Soothing Aloe and regenerating Algae Extracts leave the skin noticeably softer and smoother. Loaded with skin conditioning Vitamins B, C and E, and repairing Comfrey, this is a great treat for when your skin thirsts for a little TLC.

Whipped to luxurious perfection, this creamy mask applies effortlessly. With a gorgeous shade of green that borders on olive and fern, the Green Papaya Nutrient Mask is picture perfect for an unwinding ritual. It feels refreshing and comfortable–cooling and invigorating with a slight tingling sensation. After applying an opaque layer, wait for it to dry (10-15 minutes) before rinsing. This Astara mask does not crumble after it dries nor does it feel tight in spite of its clay base.

The blend of botanicals and antioxidants boosts the skin’s hydration almost immediately. Gently resurfaced and highly nourished, you will notice brighter, clearer, more even toned glowing skin. Safe on most sensitive complexions, the Astara Green Papaya Nutrient Mask can be used 2-3 times a week. In addition to resurfacing, nourishing and cleansing purposes, infused essential oils add aromatherapy benefits. The mood balancing aromas of sandalwood, chamomile, and citrus are intoxicating.

If you’re unfamiliar with Astara Skincare, explore the entire range, which includes a line-up of six facial masks. Highly understated, these products are widely available online at astaraskincare.com, beauty.com, skinstore.com and on the C.O. Bigelow site (www.bigelowchemists.com).

Astara Green Papaya Nutrient Mask retails for $42 (2 oz.)
