Hair is Fabric Cleansing Conditioner (The DECIEM Chronicles)

For guys, there is something extremely appealing about a cleansing conditioner. The convenience of a single application is reason alone to explore this fast growing hair care category. My Spring hair clean-up secret weapon? A tube of Straight Hair Support from HIF (Hair is Fabric) by DECIEM.

Why Hair is Fabric?

In a market saturated with options, cleansing conditioners have become redundant of late. HIF is significantly more appealing because of its unique Fabric Depositing Technology. With a strong anti-detergent stance, the brand wants you to consider your locks couture worthy. Think of it as dry-cleaning. With water.

Now imagine how dyes get deposited into fabric and you can understand the unique delivery system these guys are using. Every beneficial active ingredient gets anchored to the cuticle for nourishing and conditioning results that last. All that while the advanced cleansing particles attract dirt and rinse off without drying your hair nor the scalp. Catering to your every need, HIF features sixteen formulas to address all conundrums revolving around texture, volume, or color, to name a few.

Being straight with you aka my take:

The Straight Hair Support option provides an amazingly helpful pairing for this flat iron user. Does it make my hair pin straight? No. Does it make the process more manageable. Somewhat. Below are my thoughts.

Packaging. Every Hair is Fabric cleansing conditioner comes in an artsy pro paint metal tube. Less than ideal for travel but ultra chic in the shower. Love.

Scent. A mix of earthy and fresh, the balanced aroma is clean with those low key posh goop vibes. I’m a huge fan. I cannot compare it to the others in the line as it’s the only one I have tried personally but I suspect it’s the highlighted ingredient Versicolor Mushroom that gives off the herbal vibes. It’s great.

Cleansing + Conditioning. The brand labels each box with numbers assigned to the strength of the cleansing and conditioning powers of each formula. With only a score of 5 on cleansing, I think this one is selling itself short. I’d have ranked and 8+ having tried it myself (unless my hair is super clean, which it is not). Conditioning is rated at 9, which is pretty generous. There is a chance my hair is more damaged than I think, but I like to follow up with a leave-in treatment, especially if I blow dry right after.

Usage. Massage a small amount into wet hair, wait three minutes after the light yet dense froth forms, and rinse. No need to repeat. Couldn’t be more straightforward.

HIF vs. the rest

If you’re wondering how HIF compares with the brand featured on just about every U.S. infomercial, yes, I used it in the past. Haven’t in a long time. Just couldn’t catch up with the constant ‘flavor mixing’, first cleanse, second cleanse, add some to soaking wet hair, etc. It sounds complicated because it is complicated. HIF is perfect for me. One tube, three minutes, great hair for days. Well, two or three days, but still. Definitely check them out!

Available at hif.com. Prices vary $16 to $33. The Straight Hair Support formula is $24. Each tube is 180ml.
