Expanding upon its luxe and innovative skincare range, Rodial makeup launched last year in the UK. Arriving stateside this July, this sculpt-centric collection is so chic and so on point it may officially be one of my favorite imports. While my interest in makeup can be rather particular, these impressive formulas deliver the perfect tint and a boost of radiance I desperately seek. Immediate front runners from the instaglam™ lineup are Compact Deluxe Powders: Bronzing, Illuminating and Translucent HD as well as the Skin Tint SPF 30 and Retouch Eye Brightening Concealer.
The Rodial Deluxe Compacts are stunning. The high shine silver metallic packaging features a leather embossed lid that strikingly resembles Togo leather by Hermès. Or is it the slightly less grainy Clemence pattern? And so with the clicking sound of a magnetic snap, the ‘R’ adorned compact is a constant reminder that I still don’t own that 40cm Birkin… Anyway, stylish and practical, these pressed powders up your vanity game and travel extremely well, making them a great addition to every bag.
Ideal for anyone craving a tan or looking to enhance their glow, the Rodial Deluxe Bronzing Powder is a universal tint that brings a flawless sun-kissed warmth to every complexion. Milled so fine that it almost feels creamy, this streak-free bronzer is neutral enough to look natural without orange or muddy surprises. Matte but not flat, this buildable powder is a dream for fans of contouring. Swipe it across your forehead, cheekbones, jawline, and decollete and as with any bronzer, start with a light hand.
Equally remarkable, the Deluxe Illuminating Powder from Rodial is the perfect finishing touch for every look. Day or night. With no shimmer nor glitter, this slightly iridescent veil melts into the skin and wakes it up with a touch of exquisite champagne gleam. The micronized pearls (you could tell me it’s crushed angel’s wings or dried unicorn tears and I’d believe you) give this highlighting masterpiece a unique lifting effect. Where do you apply it? Use a fan brush if possible and aim for top of the apple cheeks, above the bridge of your nose, and below the brow bone.
Blurring and mattifying, the Deluxe Translucent HD Powder is a must-have for anyone with oily or combination skin. This shine absorbing and completely invisible formula is perfect for midday touch-ups or as the last step of your makeup routine to ensure a matte finish. A thing to remember about an HD powder: it is best to skip it when flash photography will be used as it reflects light something fierce. It will keep your selfie game strong, however, so unless you’re walking the red carpet, you’re in the clear.
Thanks to cosmetics, faking plenty of sleep is a skill I’ve mastered. Of late, I’ve been going everywhere with the Rodial Retouch Eye Brightening Concealer. This clickable pen accompanied me all over Europe earlier this month and does not leave my clutch du jour. Mine is actually so beat up that none of the lettering exists anymore – a true testament to the favorite status. Packed with Hyaluronic Acid, its creamy texture glides on under my eyes making me look rested and alert. Even when I feel dead with a pounding headache and a twitching eye form a crazy night that ended two hours prior. One request for the future: something with a little more apricot, salmon or a touch of pink, please and thank you?!
Lastly, I’m afraid, this may be quite literally, the instaglam™ Skin Tint SPF 30… Judging by @mrsrodial’s Instagram feed and the heavily slashed prices of this gem on Rodial’s UK website, it sure looks like it is being phased out for good. My current arsenal includes the Hamptons (02) and St. Barts (03) shades in constant rotation. Incredibly lightweight and perfectly pigmented, this tinted moisturizer provides sheer coverage with a dewy finish – just the way I like it. While I’m sorry to see it go, the new broad spectrum upgrade with SPF 20 and added peptides sure looks incredible!
After meeting the very engaging Rodial founder, Maria Hatzistefanis at the make-up launch in New York City, it quickly became apparent how much of her impeccable aesthetic is projected into this prestigious brand. Extremely interesting, super friendly and truly passionate, her hands on approach across every aspect of this luxe empire from England is incredibly inspiring.
Beginning thia month, Rodial makeup is currently available in the US at Planet Beauty and at BlueMercury.com this September. The brand’s website, www.rodial.co.uk, also ships internationally. Bronzing/Illuminating/Translucent Powders $57 each, Retouch $15 (sale price), Skin Tint $15 (sale price).
