Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow AHA Night Treatment

First things first: the way Glow Recipe phased out its OG sleeping mask was not one of, but THE classiest, most consumer-conscious event I’ve ever witnessed in the beauty space. One afternoon, the brand casually announced a Farewell Tour of the Sleeping Mask that started it all. Die hard loyalists were encouraged to stock up on the original while the brand hinted about a 2.0 version about to drop. Generously gifted a jar of the new Watermelon Glow AHA Night Treatment pre-release, I’ve quickly added the juicy addition to my PM rotation over the past few weeks. First impressions follow.

Since the AHA Night Treatment is indeed a replacement for the Sleeping Mask, one can’t help but draw similarities among subtle differences between the two.

Differences I spotted first:

  • a silkier, slightly stretchier texture than the previous night treatment;
  • Made in the USA (new formula) vs. K-beauty import (OG);
  • a significantly lighter watermelon scent in the new version;
  • identical shape to the jar though new one is smaller: 60ml vs 80ml of product

What does it do?

The new Watermelon Glow is formulated to deliver powerful yet gentle overnight exfoliation and revive a dull-looking complexion. The results are the definition of the brand’s signature effect: that dewy glow. It is a super hydrating treatment with laser focused brightening properties. Think: a gel-type sleeping mask that works and feels like a serum. Because of its user-friendly texture and impressive efficacy, I enjoy it on cleansed and toned skin without extra steps.

What’s in it?

The AHA source is a pH balanced 2.5% concentration of Lactic and Glycolic Acids that is formulated to act as potent as a 10% Glycolic Acid and smooth out any imperfection without harming the skin’s moisture barrier. Regarding hydration, the overnight mask features Hyaluronic Acid in seven different molecular weights to ensure instant and gradual skin plumping effects. Niacinamide and Quinoa Peptides help refine the appearance of enlarged pores and brighten the skin overall. Lastly, Watermelon Enzymes soothe, hydrate, and micro-exfoliate the skin while adding the juicy fruit aroma that I absolutely love.

How and When?

If you’re a hardcover K-beauty enthusiast, you’ll literally apply Watermelon Glow night treatment as your last step to seal your entire routine (after layers of liquid steps, ampoules, serums, etc). Often dubbed the minimalist, I prefer to cleanse and tone (I skip acid toners on nights I reach for this Glow Recipe formula), and pat in a generous amount of the overnight treatment before bed. Be sure to not overdo it. Even the best formulated gel texture may feel sticky when you use too much product. Our skin can only absorb so much. P.S. Never ever skip sunscreen when you use overnight exfoliants!

Count me in as a huge fan of this upgrade.
