Kiehl’s and I go way back. Not even close to 1851, but long enough that I can’t count how many of their masks I have used. I remember enjoying the long gone Algae and Soothing Gel Masques back in the day. I bought their body scrubs in bottles before they appeared in tubes. Kiehl’s has been a constant in my life throughout my 33-year beauty obsession evolution.
When I received the email about their new Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque launch, I couldn’t believe that it coincided with the opening of their Brooklyn store. I raced to the High Street-bound A train and bounced enthusiastically to the charming space but did not find the new masque I so eagerly awaited.
Prior to leaving, I chatted with the friendly and knowledgeable Kiehl’s specialist who suggested the new to me in-flight items (looooove), gifted me ultra generous samples and a cute tote to boot. It wasn’t till one month later that I finally tracked down the Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque at Bloomingdale’s in Soho and we’ve been living together for the past 10 days.
While my combination skin has a T-zone with a rather strong presence, every esthetician feels the need to comment on my skin’s low hydration level. Perhaps I over-socialize on occasion, but my rule of thumb is always to consume no fewer than two bottles of water and two Advil prior to calling it a night. I’m happy to report a 98% success rate… just like the “bend and snap.”
My face, however… is clearly a different story. I laugh at the brands that market their moisturizers as ‘a drink of water for the skin.’ Umm, my face needs an IV bag–please… and thank you. With Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque, however, I am assured of waking up with my face saying, “I stayed in last night and had sushi with some water on the side.” So, if someone tells you ‘nothing happens overnight,’ you say ‘girl, please!
I may know very little about Fountain Plant and Glacial Protein (actually nothing at all) but I can tell you that Kiehl’s delivers impressive hydration overnight. We’ve already slept together three times and each morning I have awakened with a softer, refreshed, and noticeably more supple complexion. Coincidence? I think not.
Its clear gel provides a mega dose of ultra hydration. This gem of a masque is suitable for all skin types and is free of colorants, parabens, fragrance and silicones. I apply a thicker layer than recommended, wait 10-15 minutes, wipe off any excess, and doze off. With barely any sensitivities, I apply it under my eyes. You probably shouldn’t.
I believe anyone can and should make room in their medicine cabinet for this product. There is something so New York chic about a Kiehl’s jar. And, did I mention Kiehl’s charity driven collaborations with artists on creative and stunning limited editions?
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque retails for $35 (4.2oz jar). Available at Nordstrom.com.
