Paula’s Choice Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer

Nobody delivers no nonsense anti-aging better than Paula’s Choice, so when the Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer launched earlier this month, I was all in. Having experienced great success with the brand’s BHA and Retinol formulas over the years, the ‘clinical’ labeled newness caught my attention immediately. At almost thirty-eight, anything that promises to “reinforce elasticity for supple, younger-looking skin” makes it to the top of the ever growing try-me pile.

what to expect…

What are Ceramides, anyway?

Ceramides are lipid molecules that occur naturally in our skin and are an essential part of every cell. They ensure the upper layer of the dermis locks in moisture and they strengthen the protective barrier. With age, however, our body’s production of ceramides (‘cera’ means wax in Latin) slows, which results in a loss of firmness and can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. When applied topically, these lipids, identical to those found in the skin, provide visibly restorative and repairing benefits.

What’s in it?

In addition to a number of Ceramides, the new Paula’s Choice moisturizer serves up a healthy dose of Vitamin C, Retinol, Squalane, and Pomegranate Extract, among other glow inducing solutions. The lightweight lotion is extremely user friendly and is suitable for any skin type. My biggest and most pleasant surprise, however, is the dry finish of this moisturizer. I have been applying it and topping it off with a few drops of facial oil at night since it contains Vitamin A. It absorbs in seconds and layers beautifully. You can use it during the day as well so long as you are make sure to follow it up with a broad spectrum sunscreen, especially if you opt for AM application.

if you’re looking for a serum, the 10% Niacinamide Booster is my PC staple

First impressions.

In true Paula’s Choice fashion, the practical packaging scores high marks with the convenient pump dispenser. Strict believers in fragrance free formulation, the new moisturizer is completely unscented and boasts a lovely airy texture. Three weeks in, I am confident in saying it is bound to become a cult favorite. Delivering on its promise, it leaves my complexion visibly brighter and firmer. I have no doubt it will be all I need during the summer months but in spite of its being a fully loaded treatment product, my skin craves even more moisture during the cold, dry winter.
