Clearly missing out on something monumental, it was only a few months ago that I learned about the skincare benefits of ultrasound. Used during two of my most memorable summer facials, this subtle addition resulted in significantly visible improvements. I don’t suppose it was completely random to have received an email about Mira-Skin, an at-home ultrasound device, at almost precisely the same time as my facials. It was the fastest ‘yes, please’ reply I ever sent. Perhaps I’m biased, but anything ‘made in Germany’ is bound to be a winner. BMW or Lufthansa, anyone?
First and foremost, what is ultrasound exactly and why should it play any kind of role in your skincare routine? Inaudible to the human ear, ultrasound is oscillating sound pressure with a frequency greater than 1MHz (one million cycles per second). The micro vibrations allow the surface cells to absorb skin beneficial ingredients more deeply into the dermis. This amplifies the efficacy of your treatment products. Mira-Skin utilizes this technology to deliver vitamins and nutrients for a firmer, more toned complexion.
Truly user friendly, the Mira-Skin Starter Kit is the best way to approach incorporating ultrasound into your at-home skincare ritual. The set includes the device itself, Ultrasound Gel, Hyaluronic Serum, and a USB Charging Cable. Keep in mind that ultrasound requires a conductive medium so Mira-Skin offers refill options on both the gel and the serum.
Charge the Mira-Skin device with the accompanying USB cable for at least four hours. When The change in the color of the light from orange to green lets you know you’re good to go. On a freshly cleansed face, apply the Hyaluronic Serum with a small (pea size) amount of Conductive Gel on top. Using sideswept strokes, glide the device from the center of your forehead to the temples. Next, move upwards from the sides of your nose to the temples. Use downward motions from the cheekbone to your chin and from your jawline down the side of your neck. The machine warms slightly (to just above body temperature). The vibrations are barely noticeable, but the ritual is extremely relaxing. Wipe the remaining gel with a tissue or a cotton pad and continue with your regular routine.
Mira-Skin is one of the most effective treatment tools I have come across in quite some time. While my ultrasound infused facials left me glowing for days, I have been able to achieve similar results with this device for far less money. In addition to preparing the skin for maximum absorption of active ingredients, it gently exfoliates and increases cell regeneration, collagen production, levels of and elastin.
As with anything that requires a charge, there is a list of don’ts. Never use Mira-Skin on open wounds, around the eyes, and the area around the Adam’s apple. Limit yourself to 10 minutes per treatment (the device shuts itself off after 5 minutes) and stay away from it altogether if you’re pregnant or have a pacemaker. Skip anything that contains nanoparticles, fruit acids, essential oils, or enzymes when using your Mira-Skin. You can use them after your treatment but not during it.
Treat yourself to the Mira-Skin Starter Kit with Gel and Serum for a full on ultrasound experience. The Hyaluronic Serum is packed with Collagen, Microcrystalline Silver, Vitamins A and E, CoQ10, and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. It’s a very well-rounded treatment, indeed.
Available at www.mira-skin.com the Starter Kit retails for $349 and includes Ultrasound Device, Ultrasound Gel (50ml), Hyaluronic Serum (15ml), USB-Charging Cable and User Guide. A la carte refills: Gel $39 (50ml), Serum $149 (50ml).
