It seems that lately, more than ever before, we are being constantly reminded about the importance of our skin’s pH level and the role it plays in proper anti-aging routine. When one of my favorite lines, Kat Burki launched the PH + ENZYME ESSENCE earlier this summer, my need to indulge took over. Because loyalty.
The 411 on pH.
Ok, the science bit first. Often times, we hear about the “skin’s protective barrier”. The proper word is actually “acid mantle” and it is a blend of acids and oils that protects our skin from the harmful environmental pollutants while also preventing dehydration. This ideal scenario, however, requires slight acidity in the skin with a pH level of 5.5 or so (on a 0-14 scale with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being full on alkaline). Achieving this perfect balance allows for each formula to penetrate correctly and perform as promised without triggering dehydration nor irritation.
What is it?
Industry purist, Kat Burki delivers a complexion balancing masterpiece in the latest PH + ENZYME ESSENCE. Richer in texture than the traditional essence you may have experienced in the past, this gel like potion actually turns to liquid upon contact with skin. Cooling and refreshing (and featuring succulent cucumber aroma), it sinks into the skin within seconds, which ensures the free radicals are kept out and that the moisture remains. Slotted for the middle of your skincare routine, put the essence on after your cleanser and toner, but before any serums, creams, and oils.
What’s in it?
Formulated using a cold-pressed method, Kat Burki cuts out water and other fillers in her potent and botanical rich compounds. Highly innovative, the new PH + ENZYME ESSENCE combines Aloe, Papaya, Witch Hazel, Hyaluronic Acid, Turmeric, Vitamin E, Pumpkin Seed Oil, and plant hydrosols among others for a soothing, brightening and gently exfoliating experience. Always, front and center, the proprietary KB5™ Complex (Arnica, Gotu Kola, Lavender, Calendula, Chamomile) guarantees nourished and glowing skin. Borderline weightless, it is my go to toner-serum hybrid on days when cutting corners requires no sacrifice.
Do you need it?
Admittedly, at $100, the Kat Burki newness is a splurge. If you lean toward foaming cleansers like I do, you’ll find the PH + ENZYME ESSENCE a phenomenal follow up to strengthen skin that may feel tight (or as I prefer to call it squeaky clean). Two pumps is all I need – great used morning or night.
