Dyson Supersonic – Is the $399 Hair Dryer All That?

Dyson Supersonic hair dryer out of a box.

Hm, how do I say this? I love the new Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. That one. The $399 one. And while admittedly, it costs more than the monthly payment on my Volkswagen SUV, I can’t emphasize enough the true genius in the latest Dyson invention. I recognize that this may fall beyond your budget. Such a purchase should be prioritized accordingly. With that said, if your budget allows for an investment in the self-care department, I fully support this decision.

Dyson 101

Known for sexying up home appliances, Dyson is best known for their vacuum cleaners. Over the years, their innovative launches have included bladeless fans, air purifiers, and the brilliant commercial strength, ultra hygienic hair dryers. 4 years in the making by over 100 engineers Dyson pumped $67 million into the development of the Supersonic Hair Dryer and earned 100 patents. The result? The only hair dryer you’ll ever need. In the history of ever.

The Body

Slim, tall, and easy to maneuver, the seriously powerful motor is located at the bottom of the handle instead of the head. Turning the concept literally upside down, it also uses patented Air Multiplier™ technology to deliver a high pressure, focused jet of air. Compact in all the places that matter, it is significantly more quiet and feels incredibly balanced in your hand. Equipped with a pro length nine-foot cord (which does not retract), it is light enough to pack, which makes it practical, stylish, AND travel friendly.

The Details

Featuring three airflow speeds and four temperature settings with a cool shot button, the Supersonic meets all the standard needs of its users. The attachments snap on the front of the dryer magnetically (YASSSS!) and include a smoothing nozzle, a styling concentrator, and a diffuser. Did you get the magnetic part? So simple, so practical.

Magnetic…

Be sure to read the manual to learn how to clean the filter, which you find at the bottom of the handle. It’s super easy, so take the time…you don’t want lint to build up! For anyone prone to accidents, Dyson includes a non-slip mat to keep your unit secure on any counter! (I actually use this for obvious reasons.)

… SNAAAAAP!

This Guy’s Thoughts

I notice a huge difference in my mane after using the Dyson Supersonic. My hair is short, but since I wash and style it every day, owning a reliable hair dryer is non-negotiable. With the Dyson, drying time is cut by at least a third and with absolutely zero frizz (I use the smoothing nozzle). I haven’t yet tried the highest setting but find that high speed a medium temp, with a cold blast at the end work best on my hair. In addition to its flawless design and ergonomics, the Supersonic performs so well it’s worth every penny of the rather hefty price tag. I’m thrilled with the results.

Where to get it?

Here’s the thing. Dropping $399 at once may be tricky but the performance and quality of this tool is superb. Truly an investment, this Dyson beauty tool is every bit revolutionary. Launched late last year, it has already scored its first Allure Best of Beauty Award.

It is currently 20% off at Ulta.com with code DYSON20.

Available in Iron/Fuchsia or White/Silver color combinations. Because on trend.

Brilliant suggestion to buy it from QVC where you can break up the payments! Thanks, Bart! Gorgeous photos as always. <3
